Summer Fun at Körner’s Folly

This summer, Körner’s Folly is holding two fantastic events…

Family Fun Day, Saturday, July 23 (10am – 4pm)

Historic Körner’s Folly, 413 South Main Street, is hosting its inaugural Körner’s Folly Family Fun Day, this summer. On Saturday, July 23, from 10am to 4pm, families will have the opportunity to play historic games, and learn about Victorian traditions, while participating in hands-on activities and crafts. The North lawn will host “Sand Archaeology,” and Victorian games like Grace Hoops, Croquet, and many more. Children will also have an opportunity to make their own historical toys.

In addition to the games and crafts, we are excited to debut a brand new puppet show, Aesop’s Fabulous Fables at 10:30am and 1:30pm. This is a particularly fitting show, as local children used to perform these stories as part of the 1897 Juvenile Lyceum. The Lyceum performed in Cupid’s Park Theater, the top level of Körner’s Folly. Cupid’s Park Theater is believed to be the oldest private theater in America. Self-guided tours and scavenger hunts will also round out the day’s activities. Actors and actresses from Kernersville Little Theater will be stationed through the house and grounds dressed in period costumes during tours. “Docents in costumes and authentic historical games will really make you feel like you are traveling back in time to the Victorian period, right in the heart of Kernersville, North Carolina,” says Kristin Miller, Körner’s Folly Site Manager. Seating for the Puppet Shows is limited and advanced reservations for the shows are recommended.

This interactive learning experience is the perfect way to learn about this interesting period in American history.  Inscribed in the sidewalk in front of the house is “Come in.  You are at home.”  We invite you to ‘come in,’ see the unique building Jule created, and join us for some good old-fashioned family fun!

Körner’s Folly, historic house museum, is open for self-guided tours Wednesday-Saturday (10am – 4pm) and Sunday (1 – 4pm).  Scavenger hunts, activities, and puppet shows are a great way for children and grandchildren to experience the historic house.
