Children’s tours of Körner’s Folly are offered to pre-scheduled groups throughout the year. These are guided tours that have been designed and developed in alignment with the Common Core and NC Standard Course of Study objectives to meet the unique educational needs of children. Children’s tours take an interdisciplinary approach by using lessons in social studies, language arts, and math to teach young visitors about Körner’s Folly and the Körner family. While touring the house, children will be asked to count and recognize geometric shapes, make historical comparisons to the present day, and recognize change over time. Children’s tours last approximately 45 minutes and are offered on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays.
The Körner’s Folly Family Revue is a live puppet show offered throughout the year that introduces visitors to the Körner family and the history of Körner’s Folly. The puppet show takes place in Cupid’s Park Theater located on the top floor of Körner’s Folly, lasts approximately 20 minutes, and is recommended for children ages 3-11 years old. The puppet show can also be paired with a children’s tour of Körner’s Folly for pre-scheduled groups on Mondays, Tuesdays, or Wednesdays.
Recommended for 3rd – 6th grades, a reader’s theater tour of Körner’s Folly offers a unique way to learn about Körner’s Folly and the Körner family. Children become members of the Körner family, reading from a provided script and telling their classmates and friends about the house and family as they move from room to room. Reader’s theater is intended to give children a chance to teach each other about the Kernersville history and what life was like during the Victorian era while also exercising their reading and public speaking skills. Reader’s theater tours last approximately 1 hour and are offered to pre-scheduled groups on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays.
