Victorian Parlor Series: Murder, Mystery, and Mayhem with Jennifer Bean Bower
Friday, October 27, 2017 @ 6:30pm in Cupid’s Park Theatre
The Victorian-era is often described as having a “culture of death.” From taking photos of dead loved ones, to superstitions, to wearing jewelry made from hair of the deceased, the Victorians had an elaborate culture of grief and mourning. Speaker Jennifer Bean Bower plays into the Victorian culture of death by exploring strange and mysterious tales of Murder, Mystery, and Mayhem in Forsyth County over 100 years ago from her recent book. This entertaining lecture-style event is sure to get you into the Halloween spirit, and will be kicked off with a fall-themed Victorian Parlor game.
This event is part of our new adult education program, the Victorian Parlor Series. While sipping, snacking, and socializing, we explore a topic related to Historic Körner’s Folly or popular culture of the Victorian era. During the Victorian period, the parlor represented was a gathering of people under the roof of an inspiring host, held partly to amuse one another and partly to refine the taste and increase the knowledge of the participants through conversation. Each presentation will be kicked-off with a historic Victorian parlor game and adult beverages are included in your ticket price. Tickets are $5 per person and can be purchased in advance below.
