"Interactive Murder Mystery Night - "The Auction" - Oct 10 & 17, 2009
Annual Wine Tasting Festival - Saturday September 12th
On Wednesday, July 22nd, the Horseless Carriage Club of America (NC Group) spent a few hours at the Folly. There were some 35-40 vintage cars, from 1920 Model T's to early Cadillacs.
The Folly is Officially HAUNTED! .. But Friendly!
On July 15th, Iris Carter & Deonna Kelli Sayed, from the Southern Paranormal & Anomaly Research Society (SPARS) gave their official report and YES, the Folly is "Officially Haunted". They presented voice & video evidence where EVP's (Electronic Voice Phenomena) were captured in the outhouse, the childrens' room, the reception room, the sewing room and Cupid's Park theater. They recorded voices saying "Peek-a-Boo", the name "Annie", as well as video showing convincing evidence that SOMETHING was present. Their investigation occurred the night of May 23, 2009.
Polly Wolfe, Granddaughter of Jule Korner, was present. She was a bit hesitant to give her opinion on the "spirits", but she did say that her Grandfather would have been very proud of this research and findings.
Abe Visits: Actor who depicts Lincoln tells a few stories at Korner's Folly - by Monica Young - July 14, 2009
KERNERSVILLE - Abraham Lincoln came to Korner's Folly in Kernersville last weekend, courtesy of actor Peter Holland.
Holland, depicting Lincoln as he was in November 1863, four months after Gettysburg, used research and Lincoln's writings to portray his life and mannerisms.
Dressed in period costume with a similar hairstyle, Holland seemed to closely resemble the nation's 16th president. As he performed, the lighting cast a tall shadow on the angled ceiling walls of Körner's Folly.
The show began with Lincoln rooting around in his hat for important pieces of paper that he called "raisins." Each paper reminded him of a story. Holland, in character, explained that Lincoln kept important documents in his tall top hat when he was an attorney in Illinois.
Most of the facts were woven into humorous stories, a device that Lincoln was famous for using and one that often frustrated his foes. The show lasted an hour, with an opening of three time-relevant spirituals sung by Holland's wife and partner, Christina Holland. The Hollands, who live in Virginia and run drama camps in Mount Airy, travel during the year with shows on Abraham Lincoln... (full article HERE!)

KERNERSVILLE -- Connie Martin's run as executive director of Körner's Folly ended after six years in storybook fashion.
Her work at the Folly introduced her to Jule Körner IV, the great grandson of Jule Gilmer Körner, the man who built what is billed as "the strangest house in the world.''
Love blossomed, and the couple was married, with Connie Martin Körner moving to live with Jule Körner, the last living descendant to bear the family name, outside of Washington... (Full Article HERE)
Ghost hunters employ technology, skepticism - Sunday, June 14, 2009 By Robert C. Lopez - Staff Writer - Accompanying Photos, Joseph Rodriguez (News & Record) -

Melinda Waldrup takes a seat on the floor of the maid's quarters at Körner's Folly in Kernersville. She speaks into her tape recorder, noting the time: 9:15 p.m.
The lights go out. In the next room Caroline Rogers asks, "Is anybody with us tonight?"
A few seconds later, Waldrup chimes in.
"What was your life like here?"
Some ice in a cooler trickles down. An air conditioner hums. And Rogers thinks she hears some kids playing.
But there are no kids around.
Rogers and Waldrup are members of the Southern Paranormal and Anomaly Research Society, which recently extended its reach into the Piedmont Triad. (Full article HERE!)

KERNERSVILLE, N.C. May 24, 2009 – After weeks of research and preparation, officials from the Southeastern Paranormal and Anomaly Research Society set up to investigate Korner’s Folly.
They say they are looking to detect any paranormal activity that might be happening at the self-proclaimed strangest house in the world.
“There's no telling what we might find. We might find nothing, we might find all kinds of things,” SPARS Founder Paula Hayes said.
Rumors say the historical Kernersville property is haunted. Saturday night, the group investigated those claims.(More info)
Note - Bruce Frankel will give a summary of the Paranormal Investigation at the next board meeting. The investigation results will not be known until a few weeks from now. SPARS had a large crew here but it still took until 3:30am to complete their investigation. His guess is that they found ‘activity’ but they probably will not have it narrowed down any further than that.
KERNERSVILLE – A Triad-area landmark known as the strangest house in the world is getting some attention from paranormal experts.
Officials from the Southern Paranormal and Anomaly Research Society plan to conduct an investigation to see if the creaks and moans of the more than 100-year-old Korners Folly home are those of age – or something more.
Officials say the home has always been surrounded by an air of mystery.
“People say, well, it was vacant for 30 years, people over time have remembered it when it was boarded up. They've heard strange sounds, maybe when they went by,” Bruce Frankel, executive director of the Korners Folly Foundation, said. "People have interesting minds in how they look at something and because it's not a traditional-type house, I think even more so."
But SPARS hopes to settle the many active imaginations. The society plans to investigate the house in the next week.
“SPARS comes into a property under the assumption that it is not haunted, and what we try to do is prove or disprove a haunting. We try to figure out natural explanations of any supposed paranormal phenomena,” Deonna Kelli Sayed, an investigator-in-training from SPARS, said.
And she says they use science to figure it out.
“We'll have a thermal imaging camera, which gives us heat signatures and cold signatures.” Sayed said. “We will use digital audio to hear if there are any noises or disembodied voices that we can't hear with our human ears.”
Paranormal experts say one of the things that makes this house so unique is that 90 percent of it is filled with original furniture, something that's important during their investigation.
“There are some theories in the paranormal community that whatever is there, whether it's spirits or entities or energies, may attach themselves to objects,” Sayed said.
And whether it's really a ghost or a tricky mind, Sayed said by the end of the investigation, they hope to have definitive answers.
“We are just trying to find ways to understand things that perhaps we don't yet understand,” she said.
SPARS is affiliated with The Atlantic Paranormal Society, made famous by the Sci-Fi Channel's Ghost Hunters.
On April 30th, Connie Martin worked her last day as director of Korner's Folly. Her 6 years of dedicated work were invaluable, it helped build the Folly in many directions and Connie will surely be missed. Best wishes!

Kernersville landmark celebrates 125th anniversary this year - By Katie
Scarvey Salisbury Post
KERNERSVILLE -- It's billed as the strangest house in the world.
Open for tours, the Victorian-era home known as Körner's Folly
is perhaps better described as wonderfully quirky rather than strange.
However you describe it, the home provides a fascinating look into the
time period and the mind of its creator, Jule Körner.
On Saturday, April 2, Korners Folly began its 125th anniversary
celebration with grand opening ceremonies and a day of festivities including
a Grand Masquerade/Period Costume Ball...
The Korners Folly Foundation invited the community to join the
celebration that lasted from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the Folly grounds.
The day featured a Birthday Party atmosphere...
There was a commemorative presentation by Gene Stafford, a local artist,
of the artwork, Vintage Folly, by Vance Garvin. Garvin painted
an original watercolor for the Korners Folly Foundation which
is being reproduced in 125 prints to be sold at $125 each.
Körner's
Folly opened with a Grand Reception, on Easter Monday, March 28, 1880.
What better way to celebrate the birthday of "The Strangest House
in the World" than with a year long celebration.
Beginning in April 2005 and continuing through January 1, 2006, the
Körner's Folly Foundation will be celebrating the 125th Anniversary
of the opening of Körner's Folly. There will be many activities
and events scheduled throughout the year for the community to celebrate,
as well as special events for Foundation members, contributors, sponsors,
and volunteers. (Click here for full story!)
