The following pictures represent a historical tour of The Folly.  Pictures used in this presentation were taken during the late 19th and early 20th century.  Where available, we've used actual handwritten notes extracted from the backs of these pictures to describe their contents.  Except as noted, original pictures and notes were provided by Polly Doré Körner Donnell Wolfe of Charlotte, NC.

FireplaceFireplace

This picture is of Main Dining Room, looking west from Breakfast Room. The large double doors at far end of room lead into the "Main Vestibule" which in turn opens onto the west porch.

The wall panels are corded silk damask. Note the fireplace which was the heating method for many locations before installation of Central heating about 1906 or 1907.

The carpet is a heavy long velour of Burgundy red color.

Originally, this dining room constituted the driveway for carriages or buggies. It is now at the rear of the house from west to east. In the early 1890s Jule built a large stable about 200 yards north of the Folly on the other side of Salem Street. Then all the south portion of the house formerly devoted to stables was converted to other uses, some of which are shown in this picture.

At extreme left of picture (only a small part showing), is a door looking into the "Sewing Room". At extreme right of picture (not shown) is a door leading into pantry. At far right side of picture is a door which leads down into the completely tiled wine room and storage room below ground level – where the temperature remains substantially the same all year round.
